Thank you for sharing the activities.By using a reading text that students are familiar with will actually triggers lots of interesting activities that is related to them
My group members were instructed to read the article "Positive results from nambikei-trust". From the activity I realised that somehow the students might not like the feeling of getting an article that is 'new' in context to them. Because they simply don't know the story behind it. But after a discussion with the rest of the members, it came to my realization that this article was actually quite interesting. We happened to learn new facts about different culture and the discussion was fun to have! I think this is the beauty of having group discussion activity in classroom, we can help the students to read and at the same time have the pleasure of conveying their own thoughts and ideas among them.
Thanks for the sharing today. There is one thing that I learned today, in which teaching reading may not be necessary all about doing reading exercises, but it can also be integrate verbal or oral presentation session into the activity.
Thank you for sharing these reading activities. It reminded me of something similar I've done in the classroom unknowingly. Now I'm convinced that it's also a good approach to use multiple texts for reading that will subsequently lead the learners to use the knowledge learned in a meaningful way.
i prefer more class activities to be done in groups, indviduals to cater different range of students' abilities

ReplyDeleteInstructional Conversation can be used to get the students to be engaged with the text with prompts given by the Teacher.
